Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What or who is the Single Payer?
A: In our present system there are 1500 private administrative bodies and two public, Medicare and Medicaid. In this proposed system there will be only one "single" administration saving Floridians 4 billion dollars.

Q: As there is only a single administration, does it therefore mean no choice of health care plan and providers?
A: The opposite is true. Actually, there is full choice of health care plans, solo practitioners, group practices and health maintenance organizations and thus full choice of health care providers.

Q: What happens to competition with the "Single Payer"?
A: Competition based on the satisfaction of patients with the quality of services received is integral to this plan. If you are not satisfied you just choose another provider at any time.

Q: With the "Single Payer", who makes the decisions about an individual’s health care?
A: All health care decisions, procedures, tests, consultations, visits, hospitalizations etc., are made by you, the patient, and your health care provider, not by administrators, public or private bureaucrats or any other strangers.

Q: Will The Single Payer System raise our taxes?
A: Absolutely not! This health care program cuts health care costs by approximately $1000.00 per person. It is financed by individuals paying affordable flat rate premiums. Click on ABOUT US for more information on Financing.

Q: Thanks to Jenny Brown from Gainesville, editor of the Gainesville Iguana, who asks,
"How much are the premiums per person?"
A: The premium which would be paid by individuals who are not on Medicaid or Medicare and earn in excess of $25,000.00 a year of income is $1000.00 per person less than the average employer based health plan premium. When the Florida House Health Care Committee staff costed out the program in 1993, the premium was $2176.00 a year, $181.33 a month.
